The Power of Diversity

About Me and My Education Philosophy:
Hello, my name is Emily Bryant and I am a preservice teacher at Fort Lewis College. I grew up in Pagosa Springs, Colorado where I lived all twenty-one years of my life. I have two older sisters, a younger brother, and two loving parents. My passion to become a teacher originally developed through watching my mother and the positive effect she has on her own students. My mother has been an early and elementary educator for the last 25 years; therefore, from a very young age, I witnessed the influences teaching can have on young children. Also, I noticed the rewarding aspect that my mother seems to gain from simply being surround by free, loving, and spirited children.
As I grew, my overarching view on education became more concrete in the idea that the more an individual develops his/her knowledge, understanding, and self awareness, the more one becomes capable of unlocking doors of opportunities within their own life. Realizing that, a thorough education was essentially the key that could unlock endless possibilities for children. I could not help but feel the need to take part in this wonderful life transforming processes. I believe that all children, regardless of, race, ethnicity, language, culture, location, disabilities, skill level, family background, etc., should receive the best of the best education. In a perfect world, I would (like many others) have it that all children receive equal access to the highest quality of education. However, I am aware that in reality this is a much more complicated goal to attain. Challenging as it may seem, I want to teach my students to rise above barriers placed upon them, and work together to build a solid educational foundation in which they can use to succeed in life in their own unique ways.

Philosophy around Supporting all Students Especially Emergent Bilinguals:
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Support, incorporate, and build upon students culture, background, home environment, first language, and interests
- Create a welcoming and safe classroom environment for all
- Build an environment with collaboration and communication among peers and personnel
- Provide necessary support, scaffolds, and activities that will help students learn content and language
Down Below is a short video that explains a little bit more about who I am. Enjoy!
